Practice Inspiration - Advanced Sight Reading Studies

As a euphonium player, I sometimes get bored of using the same study books (like the Arban) and doing the same 'brass' player type of stuff over and over.

So when I find myself feeling like that, I like to do sight reading of music written for other instruments. By far the best I have found is using clarinet music. For euphonium players it means our range will be challenged in a big way!

Euph sight reading

Usually at the end of a days practice, I like to dip into these study books. I haven't printed them, I just play them straight from my office desktop PC.

I am sharing 4 pdf's below of clarinet studies which I love using as sight reading, in those times were I feel a bit bored with the usual routine. I don't need to elaborate on the power of sight reading practice, but sometimes it can be tricky to find enjoyable music to sight read that will challenge you musically and technically.

These studies for clarinet are insanely hard. They are for advanced players but if this blog post does nothing else, I hope it inspires all musicians to go in search for new music all the time, challenge yourself with music that your instrument wouldn't usually play. Borrow from other instruments, create your own studies and share them with other people.

These are resources that I found online for free with a simple search. I claim no ownership of them.

Hope you find them useful.

Thanks for reading ❤
